ACCORDING TO THE GRAIN

This project highlights the quality of a wood knot, whose character is often treated as a defect and neutralized in the industrial processing. By chiselling 12mm from a flat surface and chiselling the knots, its three-dimensionality and texture are enhanced and the unique materiality becomes palpable to the viewer. The surface now reveals more secrets and helps the user imagine what this material was like in its natural state.
