SOOWON CHAE

Soowon Chae is a conceptual and material designer based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands). The primitive and unspoiled beauty of nature, the innate creativity of man, and the interaction between man and nature are themes that fascinate him. He is particularly interested in how meanings and functions change over time and how authentic values are given a new interpretation. He likes to have those ideas and thoughts reflected in his design and products as an overarching narrative or a story. And he carefully endeavors to choose an ideal material for a project because the material takes a crucial part in his project.

His Ocragela project and anima series have been exhibited in the Netherlands, Romania, Korea, Italy, Estonia, and so on. And his material ‘Ocragela’ has been archived in various worldwide material libraries in the Netherlands, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, United Arab Emirates, France, and the Czech Republic. Lately, he had a workshop at Jan Van Eyck Academy in the Netherlands and a national museum of modern and contemporary art in Korea to introduce his material Ocragela and Plastigela to the public.
